KOTA BAHARU: Describing the percentage as low, the Kelantan Government has revealed that only seven per cent of its 1.4 million population have access to the Internet.
In relation to that, he said, they were ready to relax the requirements on land acquisition to develop telecommunications in the state and extend the spread of information through the media.
"We always provide opportunities to telecommunication companies to set up more transmitters to allow them to broaden the Internet network in the state,” he told reporters here today.
Mohamed Fadzli said, so far, the state government had allowed Infraquest Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Kelantan State Economic Development Corporation (KSEDC), to carry out a transmitter station project for this purpose.
"We don't see anything that would prevent these companies from expanding broadband access...so, the people can obtain foreign and local news," he said.
In a related development, Mohamed Fadzli said, to produce considerate Internet users, the committee and telecommunication company Jaring were outlining a policy to monitor users.
"This is because a lot of negative incidents can occur in this era of sophisticated technology and borderless world, and if not controlled, can result in cyber crime," he added.
Mohd Fazdli said the move was also in line with the government's efforts through the committee to create a group on Facebook known as Sahabat Siber Sayang Kelantan (Saing) recently.
The Facebook page, which was officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat last month, has over 3,000 members comprising various levels of society.
