Eu Yan Sang Group Chief Executive Officer, Richard Eu, said Sabah is very rich in natural resources and "we are very keen to tap into (Sabah's) flora and fauna".
Speaking at the meeting between the Eu Yan Sang's top management and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Peter Pang at Magellan Sutera, Tuesday, he said they hoped to work with the universities to see what kind of products can come up from Sabah.
He said the industry's potential is huge, as nowadays use of natural medicine and TCM is prevalent throughout the world.
According to Richard, it was the first time they held their managerial retreat in Sabah, which was also to coincide with the soft opening of the Eu Yan Sang branch at Suria Mall here.
He said Eu Yan Sang came to Sabah in 1996 selling its products to the major districts in the State. "We are really happy that we are finally able to open an outlet here," he said, adding that based on the response so far, it looked like more would be opened in future.
At the same time, Richard said they wanted to know what Sabah was all about, especially in terms of investment opportunities.
Hence the meeting with Pang and the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (Sedia) as well as the various business sectors.
The meeting was organised by the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Sabah branch.
Meanwhile, Pang who is also State Youth and Sports Minister, said he was happy to learn that Eu Yan Sang was planning to expand its herbal business to Sabah, which is an ideal place for herbal plantation.
"Sabah is one of the most convenient places to experience the wonders of the tropical rainforests as the thriving forests is literally only a footstep away from civilisation.
"Sabah's mega flora diversity exhibits many mountain plant species, not only many species of orchids and rhododendrons not found elsewhere," he said.
Pang noted that about a quarter of all medication today was produced using resources from the rainforest.
He also hoped the briefing by the CEO of Sedia, Datuk Dr Mohd Yaakub Johari on the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) and by Department of Industrial Development and Research Principal Assistant Director, Tseu Kei Yue on the investment opportunities in Sabah would help in their decision.
Later, Eu Yan Sang Malaysia Chairman, Datuk Anne Eu presented a memento to Pang.
Also on hand were Eu Yan Sang International Managing Director, Clifford Eu and MICCI Chairman Datuk A. Arulpragasam.
